I took a look at the Apple SmartCover for the iPad 2, and thought it looked kind of clever. So I dipped into my pocket for about $40 and got one. It turned out to be a lot of money for a polyurethane screen protector. I was pretty disappointed at how costly the thing was for what you get. My take is don’t buy this one. It just does not offer the kind of protection you need for using it full time or even just around the house. Kind of too bad.

The official Apple iPad case is about $39. It’s a nice case that’s very functdional. It lets you hold the iPad like a book and it acts as a stand for you if you put it into landscape view so you can use the touch keypad more easily. You can also use it to prop up the iPad for movies and such. On the downside, it may not meet your needs completely. It does not protect the screen well. The screen can still get scratched up. The external part of the case is also not that tough and could easily get scuffed up pretty fast. While this cover might work for you, I suggest getting a better quality case.
